| ( just what the subject says )
( also the superhero meme )
I saw the song listed in an LJ post and thought "I want to listen to that one again". Actually, it's on a mix CD that a friend gave me, and it's coincidence that it's the exact song that's playing while I post this. But that's why I loaded the CD.
Also, yay pocky! I stopped to buy some apple cider on the way home from school tonight and wandered through the international foods isle just by accident, and there it was! ^> | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| On another, stranger note, even though I was exploring this site because of C-kun's link, I've been to the site's missile silo tour before. A very, very, very long time ago, when I surfed the web via a 14.4 modem and a 486DX/33. Holy crap.
Despite the tiny, claustrophobic graphics, it's a stunning depiction of what some men put themselves through for the sake of keeping the country (and the world?) safe. And just how much destruction these sites were prepared to endure. We think we have it bad now, with silliness about terrorism and threat levels and Iraqi dictators. But we only worry about it because somewhere, someone managed to keep their head during the fifties, sixties and seventies. I suppose there's something to be said for wanting to keep from regressing back to such a state. But my god. The road to the site looks so innocuous. In a fucking field in Kansas or something. And they were ready to end half the world. Just so the Russians wouldn't have all the fun.
I want to write a story about it. But I don't want to write about a new-millennium Gollum. Mostly because I really hate that character.
Companies actually buy abandoned missile silos, retrofit them and sell them as homes. I so wanted one.
Also from the same site. Again with the "holy crap". | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |

| I seem to be exceptionally self-aware. Or do other people out there regularly examine themselves with similar intensity? Those of you who've read some of my previous, excruciatingly lengthy rants, to you I respectfully pose this question.
Also, wow, I'm really turning into an LJ comment-whore. o_o | comments: 12 comments or Leave a comment |
